why am i making this game?
I was born in 1984 so I grew up with the NES, SNES and Genesis. These consoles were everything to me. Actually, they still are everything to me. Nothing beats the times where I had to yell at friends for trailing behind or dying continuously in Contra, or being yelled at by my friends because I was "being cheap" in Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat by repeating the same move over and over again. Yes, I know there are still couch co-op games today. And yes these modern games have amazing graphics. But the newer games just don't give me that same feeling I had when I played the old games. But I'm not here to debate about if retro games are better than modern games. I'm here to share my story about how this idea came about, and eventually I hope to share this game with the world.
I had originally made this game as a type of boardgame (without the board). I made cards with game certain game challenges on it and used various websites that had video game trivia. I also used a chalkboard to keep track of everyone's points. After I told my brothers and friends about it, they were excited to give it a try. So one night they came over to play it and everyone had a blast. Not long after that I had an idea to make this a little easier to play. Instead of using cards and a chalkboard, or having to load up all the games myself, why not make this into one giant game? Not only would my friends and I be able to play it, but I could share it with the rest of the world. So if you were a gamer that grew up in the 80s/90s, this will be as much fun as it was for me and my friends. Even if you've never played a retro game in your life, this is still a great game to play with friends. There is so much to be learned by taking a retrospective look back at the older generation of console games. They are a part of gaming history. The Next Game Master will take players on a journey. For some it will be a brand new experience and for others it will be a journey down memory lane.
There will be laughing (whether its together or at someone else for being terrible)...
There will be yelling (whether its a distracting strategy or just plain raging out)....
There might even be some crying (and not from laughing too hard).
But after its all said and done, you will find out which of you is the best gamer out of your group of friends. Then, they will be forced to call you THE NEXT GAME MASTER!
